Alliance Law Firm Annual Lecture Series 2019: Leveraging Technology to Develop & Re-brand Nigeria

Alliance Law Firm held its 2019 lecture themed: “Leveraging Technology to Develop and Re-brand Nigeria” The lecture forms part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility, aimed at giving back to the society through promoting a rich interactive discussion on the above theme which is critical to the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

The Chief host of the event was Uche Val Obi SAN, Managing Partner, Alliance Law Firm.

The Chairman of the event was Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman MTN Nig. Plc.

The faculty of speakers included:

  • Sir Leo Stan Ekeh, Founder/Chairman, Zinox Technologies Limited as the Lead Speaker;
  • Patrick Akinwuntan, MD/CEO, Ecobank Nigeria Limited;
  • Chantelle Abdul, GMD, Mojec International Holdings;
  • Segun Aina, President, Fintech Nigeria;
  • Linda Ikeji, Founder, LindaIkeji’sBlog;
  • Umar Bindir, Former DG, NOTAP;
  • Mike Ogbalu III, CEO, Verve International; and
  • Andrew Nevin, Partner, PWC.

The lead speaker while giving his presentation mentioned that human capital is essential to develop and rebrand Nigeria through technology. He observed that technology is a tool which can be used to fight crimes. He further noted that Nigeria could interface with global communities through technology. He equally mentioned that technology can be used to maintain the Nigerian healthcare system.

Sir. Ekeh while addressing the Nigerian youths who he termed “The new generation”, he noted that they are armed with technological apparatuses which they can use to develop Nigeria. However, he noted that the fast paced nature of the new generation in their quest for wealth was a hindrance. He advised that the new generation should learn patience and acquire knowledge first. Another challenge he mention was the weak legal system which did not protect Nigerians, he advised that the government put all in place for technology to thrive in Nigeria.

Amongst the other speakers, Mr. Akinwutan noted that Connectivity, e-Governance, Cashless policy and Information Service are the four principles Nigeria needs to develop and re-brand through technology. On the other hand, Ms. Ikeji mentioned that the social media is an important tool the Nigerian society can use to re-brand, she noted that all citizens especially the influential ones should use their leverage to promote Nigeria in good light through the media. Ms. Abdul also noted that power and energy are vital tools for Nigeria to promote technological innovations. The brilliant Engr. Bindir mentioned that Nigerians must know that everything we do revolves around science, innovation and technology, he noted that the policy of government must be realigned to adapt Nigeria for this new Age, he further noted that one of the hindrances to technological advancement in the country is the way educational institutions are managed in the country.

All speakers acknowledged that technology is an important tool the nation can adopt to develop and re-brand.
